We’re still a ways from SAO The Movie Ordinal Scale from being released but so far we know a few things about the movie. For starters it’s due out in Spring 2017 (at least in Japan). It takes place 2 years after the events of SAO. It focuses on Augmented Reality called “Auguma,” where players interact in the real world instead of doing a full dive like they would in SAO.
It seems that Kirito is not a of fan augmented Reality due to the limitations of his physical body. He did lose to his younger sister in a sword match the real world. And it would make sense since he was in a comma for a year due to the events of SAO that he would want to avoid games that have a heavy reliance on physical strength. Kirito notes that his body is “sluggish.”
After some time bosses from Airncrad begin showing up in Ordinal Scale which worries Kirito. Though the commercial doesn’t explicitly say it, it does seem like at some point Ordinal Scale is going to have the same circumstances as SAO where if players die in the game they also die in real life.
In 2026, two years since the SAO incident, a new game called “Oridinal Scale,” an Augmented- Reality MMO, is becoming popular among the players. But…strange things are happening in the game and Kirito and the gang are facing a new danger.
It’s just a game,or so I thought..
A brand new story written by original author, Reki Kawahara!! People everywhere were enjoying a new game called Ordinal Scale, an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma, a new wearable console designed for AR (augmented reality) gaming. But, the players had no idea that a nightmare from the virtual world was starting to spread into reality!! As his fellow players find themselves in danger, the hero is called upon once again.
Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale- is coming to theaters in Japan February 18, 2017.
