The Holographic Pokemon Illustrator Card was released in 1998 to the winners of the Corocoro Comic Illustration Contest. About 20-40 of these cards were released only 10 of which are beleived to be in mint condition. The card recently sold for roughly 55,000 on November 18 in California.

Rough Translation of what the card says:

We certify that your illustration is an excellent entry to the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest. Therefore, we state that you are an Officially Authorized Pokémon Card Illustrator and acknowledge your skill.

The increased popularity of the card is believed to be due in part to the release of Pokemon Go. The fact that the card is not in English doesn’t seem to have depreciated it’s value.

    It’s cute, but I don’t see it worth 55,000. However, as a collector (of stuff) I can definitely see the appeal.

    i always thought that the 1st ed. holo. charizard was the most expensive/rare
