Adult Swim has just announced the sequel for the anime cult classic FLCL (Fooly Cooly).

Created in 2000, FLCL told the tale of Naota, a 12-year-old boy who met a woman that would forever change his life…whether he liked it or not.

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy.

Enter Hidomi, a young teenage girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko come back to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 that she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot “Canti” go?

-Adult Swim’s description of the new sequel

The original creator of FLCL does have a hand in the continuation, so the story is not going to be written by a new writer.

However, many fans will be dissapointed if Naota and Canti don’t make an appearance in the new episodes of FLCL. Based off of the information above it seems as if it’s unlikely that Naota and Canti will have any part in the new season of FLCL.  But, we can still hope that they will be included. Either way, this anime will be amazing. No details concerning the release date has been announced yet.

Below is the trailer for the original season of FLCL.

Yes, about time this happened. The only thing that sucks about this is that it doesn’t seem that Naota is going to play a big role in the new season.
