Invader Zim is an American animated series created by Jhonen Vasquez that originally aired on Nickelodeon. The story focuses on an extraterrestrial named Zim and his task of enslaving the earth along with his malfunctioning robot GIR. A young boy Dib, is a self proclaimed paranormal investigator, who is bent on exposing Zim for what he is. Though the show has a very serious premise, it is actually filled with tons of humor and pokes fun at most of society.

Unfortunately, the series was cut short before its final season. The reason for this was assumed to be an unofficial release of “bloody GIR” where GIR was inserted into the show for a brief second covered in blood. However, the director later rejected those claims since it wasn’t noticed until after the show was cancelled anyways. The actual reason is that the show was Nickelodeon’s most expensive show to produce and it didn’t earn as much revenue as Spongebob. Many who worked on the show including the creator agree that it would be nearly impossible to complete the rest of the show on TV.

But, the show is back, for the creator of Invader Zim, Jhonen the show never really ended. The scripts for remaining episodes that didn’t air were released and Jhonen recently partnered up with Nickelodeon and Oni Press to release the rest of the show in comic book form. Jhonen said when refering to fans who talked about how they wished the show was still airing, “I’m always confused when people say how much they miss “Invader Zim,” because the show never really stopped in my head, and then I remeber not everyone else is in my head. I try to image the world for all those people who don’t know what Zim has been up to since the show went off air and it makes me shudder.” Jhonen is more dedicated to the show than most fans would assume, that’s why he has worked hard to release the last 5 comics for Invader Zim with 3 new issues and counting releasing in 2016.

I’d still like to see how it turns out. But for now I guess we’ll have to settle for the comics. It’s too bad that this was one of those shows that didn’t get popular until after they stopped working on it.
