Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two part play that is going to be held in Europe. The play chronicles the adult life of Harry and his second son Albus. Harry in is an over worked employee of the Ministry of Magic, he’s a husband and father of three school-aged children. Harry is once again grappling to leave his past behind (the events that took place in his infancy), while his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present merge ominously, the two must confront an uncomfortable truth, that sometimes darkness comes in unexpected places.
The plot to the newest chapter of the Harry Potter franchise sounds awesome. But, the cast of this new play has caused a lot of controversy. Hermoine was casted as a black woman! This left many fans outraged. It may have been a wrong move by the director in this case to caste Hermoine as a woman of color. Or maybe not, since the play has been getting a lot of press coverage because of it. However, this doesn’t actually contradict the Harry Potter novels, since Hermoine’s race isn’t specified. Her status as a “mudblood,” also puts her in a similar marginalized position as someone of color would be.
