Digimon Adventure Tri is a six-part film series produced by Toei Animation. It is a sequal to the original Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 2, and was created to commemorate the anime series 15th anniversary. The series focuses mostly on the concept of “Reunion,” how people come together after drifting apart. There is another film also in production that will be released March 2016.
The story takes place three years after the events of Digimon Adventure 2 and six years after the original Digimon Adventure. Even though the DigiDestined always had trouble traveling between the Digital world and the real world, they could still travel around freely when the portal was open. Now, the portal has been closed for over a year. Tai is in high school but it seems like the gang has drifted away from each other; as they never have time to really hang out. Many from the group now live too far away or have become busy leading their own lives. Matt and Tai now have to compete for the groups attention, as if that wasn’t hard enough already. Matt really wants his friends to show up to his concert while Tai would like for them to show up to his soccer game. Somehow, both Matt’s and Tai’s events usually end up happening at the same time causing even more rifts in the groups dynamic and relationship together. Furthermore, strange electronic disturbances are beginning to happen around the city, but they tend to only last a few minutes.
While fans have been waiting for this sequel for a long time…it is pretty weird to see the show progress since its release back in 1999. 15 years have passed since then and it is now 2015. But only six years have moved in the shows chronology. That might seem strange to fans who have been following the show since they were children. For many of the fans it might have been great for them to watch this series back when they were actually in high school. Either way, anyone returning to the show is bound to feel nostalgic. Currently the film is only available in English sub.
Digimon Adventure Tri Trailer
*Warning…beyond this point is filled with some spoilers…reader beware*
The DigiDestoned from Digimon Adventure 2 have gone missing, except for T.K. and Kari. This sequel is filled with many shocking twists involving the characters and you even get to see different sides of them. Like how Joe has a girlfriend! Seriously Joe has a girlfriend? We’ll have to take his word for it, at least for now. Somehow Tai has lost his resolve, he can’t move forward with his life, his professor asks him what he would like to do with his life for his career assessment, Tai says, “I’d like something where I could be with my friends.” When the corrupted Digimon reappear Tai’s not sure whether to fight them anymore. Matt asks Tai what’s wrong with him, that Tai is supposed to be the leader, but instead he just wants to stand there and do nothing. Tai just answers that things have changed, that he “sees more, but understands less.” Alluding to the fact that he is not sure whether he is doing the right thing, that fighting against the Digimon might no be the right thing to do. That if he does fight things could get destroyed or worse, someone could die.
